Vital Importance of Lead Lining in Radiation Rooms

In facilities operating ionizing radiation sources such as X-ray suites, CT scanner rooms, mammography units, and angiography labs, complete lead lining (radiation shielding) of walls and ceilings is a paramount safety requirement. Because X-rays are high-energy photons, stopping radiation leakage into adjacent areas and protecting clinical staff is both a legal mandate and a biological necessity.

At Oley Medical Products, we engineer turn-key radiation shielding solutions using 99.99% pure roll lead sheets compliant with international IEC standards.

Critical Standards in Lead Lining Installation

To achieve flawless radiation containment, the following installation rules must be strictly adhered to:

  • Minimum 15 mm Overlap Rule: Lead sheets must overlap by at least 15-20 mm at joints to prevent seam leaks.
  • Screw & Fastener Shielding: All screw heads penetrating lead sheets must be covered with lead caps of matching thickness.
  • Outlet & Duct Shielding: Electrical boxes, HVAC ducts, and door frames must be backed with continuous lead sheet protection.
  • 99.99% Pure Lead Material: Chemical purity directly dictates linear attenuation coefficients.
